Jambo, Salaam, Shalom, Namaste, and Welcome to our site, and thank
you for taking the time to read this page on what this site is about.
Our Philosophy
This is definitely not your grandma's site one beauty for women of color.
Unfortunately in the past, the focus for most sites in this topic was how
to be more acceptably western looking. The general standard of beauty
for the world was European. Well, actually, it's more European than
most Europeans actually are. Like people in Africa, the Americas,
and Asia, there is a wide variety of complexions across the Eurpean continent
too. Still, it was considered more beautiful to look more "White".
In this website, you will not find any encouragement to conform to a
standard of beauty that is based on racism or anthropological ignorance.
We promote the conviction that all ethnicities have a beauty that should
be nurtured, not twisted to fit an "ideal" that is certainly not ideal
except for those who naturally have those features.
We're not overly militant. We just want to encourage people to
make sane and confidence boosting choices about self care. DarkComplexions.com
is here to spread knowledge and give advice to those who wish to be truly
beautiful, and enjoy and appreciate their beauty, and not just conform
to a trend. This site is for women of color who love themselves,
or who wish to learn to.
Makeup
We believe that makeup is a fun way to dress up the face, not a necessity.
The approach here is somewhat like a crafty fashion site where we hope
to teach people how to look classy, wild, and fun, not that something is
wrong with them that needs to be changed. A scar from an injury or
other marks from disease are defects that one may wish to cover.
Freckles and normal wrinkling with age are not defects. They're a
part of life that the world should get used to seeing without negative
judgements. So the idea here is to learn to look great without makeup,
so that you'll look cute with the makeup. Makeup is about the art,
not about shame for one's natural appearance.
